This post is part of the October 2018 Edition of 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes. I hope you”ll join me in seeing where each prompt takes us.
P.S. Just so you know, I’m finding it difficult to stick to five minutes (**) and it may take me longer than the 31 days to finish all the prompts. Not easy for this rule follower!

Take a Moment
Take a moment. Close your eyes, quiet your mind and focus your thoughts on all that is important to you. A tragedy has once again reminded me that it only takes a moment, a split second, for our lives and all those things we just thought of, to forever change. We’re pretty good at moving through our days as if we are invincible, but then in an instant the doctor stops us in our tracks with an unwanted diagnosis, we lose our balance when someone we trust betrays us, we sink in despair when our finances fail, or we’re shattered when a loved one is taken away too soon. The truth is, there are so many painful scenarios that in a blink of an eye turn our lives upside down, break our hearts wide open, and cause our souls to cry out for relief.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)
Jesus’ words aren’t easy for me. I don’t about you, but I don’t want “many trials and sorrows”! But, if He’d stopped right there, We’d. Be. Hopeless. Thankfully, He didn’t. Jesus tells us to “have peace” and “take heart” because through His crucifixion, He’s already conquered the world for us! Those are words we can cling to when our lives feel as if they’re spinning out of control.
I wish I knew the answers to all the whys that come when tragedy strikes. I don’t. But I do know the One who promises to walk with us when we’re feeling invincible and when we’re in the darkest valley (Psalm 23:4). The One who promises to never leave us or abandon us (Deuteronomy 31:6). The One who will take a moment and transform it into an eternity, where finally, our trials and sorrows will be no more. I pray you know Him, too. If you don’t, do not wait a moment longer to ask Him into your life! (Romans 10:9-10)
Amen thanks for sharing! This post made me think of the song “Not for a Moment” by Meredith Andrews https://youtu.be/qoh26pC2RT8
I just love Meredith Andrews! Thanks for this song and for stopping in! I really appreciate it! Cindy
Thanks for this, Cindy. You’re right, everything can change in a moment. We need to make the most of our days and trust that God is in control of all of it.
Amen to that Jeannie, I’m really trying to be dedicated to letting those who mean the most to me know how much I care. I don’t want there to be any doubt if my “blink of an eye” comes. Thank you so much for taking time to comment! It means a lot!
This is a beautiful post, Cindy! It’s so reassuring to remember that Jesus has overcome, even in the midst of tragedy and heartache, and that he is with us no matter what we face.
I so agree, Lesley! I sometimes forget it and begin to despair but He is gracious to remind me He’s always there! I so appreciate you taking time to comment!
So beautifully written. Such truths. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have our Savior. The One who is steady, faithful, and unchangeable Every.Single.Moment of our lives, now, and into eternity. I am so grateful that I stopped by. Your writing is a beautiful blessing, Cindy.
Oh Joan, your kind words touch my heart! I too, am so thankful for our unchanging God. We wouldn’t make it with out Him, that’s for sure! Thank you for stopping in!
Wonderful words of life!!
Thank you so much Nancy!
